AP Physics 1

AP Physics 1 is a course designed and overseen by The College Board. It is an algebra-based physics course designed to cover the curriculum of a first-semester college physics course.

In the 2019-2020 school year, I am teaching two sections of AP Physics 1 at Vanden High School. This page will contain links to information about assignments and tutoring resources.

AP Physics 1 addresses three areas of knowledge:

  • Course content units.
  • Big Ideas that connect these course units, and are seen in other sciences.
  • Science Practices, which are seen in all science classes.

Content units

  1. Kinematics
  2. Dynamics
  3. Circular Motion and Gravitation
  4. Energy
  5. Momentum
  6. Simple Harmonic Motion
  7. Torque and Rotational Motion
  8. Electric Charge and Electric Force
  9. DC Circuits
  10. Mechanical Waves and Sound

Big Ideas

  • Systems
  • Fields
  • Force Interactions
  • Change
  • Conservation
  • Waves

Science Practices

All AP science courses include the following Science Practices, which we will also focus on as we study the content units.

  • Modeling
  • Mathematical Routines
  • Scientific Questioning
  • Experimental Methods
  • Data Analysis
  • Argumentation
  • Making Connections
