AP Physics 1 is a course designed and overseen by The College Board. It is an algebra-based physics course designed to cover the curriculum of a first-semester college physics course.
In the 2019-2020 school year, I am teaching two sections of AP Physics 1 at Vanden High School. This page will contain links to information about assignments and tutoring resources.
AP Physics 1 addresses three areas of knowledge:
- Course content units.
- Big Ideas that connect these course units, and are seen in other sciences.
- Science Practices, which are seen in all science classes.
Content units
- Kinematics
- Dynamics
- Circular Motion and Gravitation
- Energy
- Momentum
- Simple Harmonic Motion
- Torque and Rotational Motion
- Electric Charge and Electric Force
- DC Circuits
- Mechanical Waves and Sound
Big Ideas
- Systems
- Fields
- Force Interactions
- Change
- Conservation
- Waves
Science Practices
All AP science courses include the following Science Practices, which we will also focus on as we study the content units.
- Modeling
- Mathematical Routines
- Scientific Questioning
- Experimental Methods
- Data Analysis
- Argumentation
- Making Connections
