For example 5.14 of the review packet, I believe I’ve set up equations to determine the height and velocity of the satellite, but I reached a roadblock: the way my equations are set up, I would need the velocity to find the height and vice-versa, so my question is how would I solve this issue? Is there a common sense or logical way to substitute or eliminate some of the variables of the equation? The given information tells us that the satellite is always orbiting above the same point of the equator, so I take that to mean it’s orbit is a circle and would have a velocity proportional to the rotational speed of the Earth to stay in sync with Earth.

    1. As I was typing this comment, I believe I found part of the solution to my question: you can replace velocity with (circumference/period). The period would be equal to a day since that’s how long it takes for Earth to rotate once, but would the circumference be the circumference of Earth?

    2. The question states that the satelite geosynchronous. This means it revolves the same rate as the earth or somethin like that! This means:

      V = (2pi*r)/24 hours

      (Convert hours to seconds)

      And then easy clap!

        1. Thank you so much! I got the V = (2pi*r)/24 hours, but it wasn’t exactly working with the equation I had; that’s when you helped me realize that I just had to solve for r, and not over-complicate the whole thing.
